Andy Roddick picks who he believes is the ‘clear-cut’ favorite to win Wimbledon between Coco Gauff and Aryna Sabalenka

Aryna Sabalenka and Coco Gauff battled it out in a thrilling final at the 2025 French Open.

Both players dropped just one set en route to the 2025 Roland Garros final, as they stepped onto Court Philippe Chatrier searching for their maiden titles in Paris.

In three tight sets, Gauff defeated Sabalenka 6-7, 6-2, 6-4 to win her second Grand Slam title, and her first at the French Open.

After such an entertaining clash, fans of the sport immediately looked ahead to the next Grand Slam event, Wimbledon, where they could face off once more.

Former world number one Andy Roddick has now revealed who he believes is the ‘clear-cut favorite’ to win on the grass between Sabalenka and Gauff.

During the latest edition of Served with Andy Roddick, Jon Wertheim gave his verdict on Sabalenka’s grass-court capabilities.

“[Aryna] Sabalenka on grass, bear in mind there was that silly Russia/Belarusian ban, and last year she didn’t play a match, she was injured, she can play on grass, she can play really well,” he said.

“Her game and her athleticism, that translates, even after this debacle, Saturday, I think she’s still the favorite at Wimbledon.”

Roddick interrupted, sharing his thoughts on the world number one.

“Time out. She’s absolutely the favorite at Wimbledon,” he said.

Wertheim continued on, naming his top three favorites for the third Grand Slam of the year.

“I’d say Sabalenka one, Coco [Gauff] two, Madi [Keys] three,” he said.

Roddick explained why he believes Sabalenka is the favorite to win Wimbledon next month.

“I’m just telling you that there’s a lot that goes right for Coco as soon as she steps on a clay court. She’s amazing, but that doesn’t mean her spaces where she needs to work change immediately,” he said.

“[Elena] Rybakina is going to be on the shortlist, Madi is going to be on the shortlist.

“Sabalenka is the clear-cut favorite.

“I don’t put a lot of stock into a match. Is there going to be a hangover from losing two Slam finals in a row? Does that affect the psyche? Absolutely.

“But there is not a person to be bet on more confidently than Sabalenka at Wimbledon.”

Wertheim looked ahead with intrigue to the world number one’s return to action.

“The number one player in the world, who is coming off of two heart-breaking final losses, is trying to win Wimbledon for the first time, and the player who just beat her here is a contender, and the player who beat her in Australia is also a contender,” he said.

How have Coco Gauff and Aryna Sabalenka performed at Wimbledon so far?

Neither Gauff nor Sabalenka has won Wimbledon yet, although one player has certainly enjoyed more success than the other.

Gauff has failed to qualify for the quarterfinals in five visits to the All England Club, whereas Sabalenka is a former two-time semi-finalist.

Remarkably, Sabalenka and Gauff share the same win/loss record and win% at the event, despite Gauff’s failure to reach the last eight.

Sabalenka came up short in a deciding set in both 2021 and 2023 (her two most recent tournaments), narrowly missing out on a place in her maiden final.

Looking to go one better in 2025, Sabalenka could meet Gauff in the final, as the pair head to Wimbledon as the top two seeds.

Following her defeat to Gauff in the French Open final, Sabalenka now trails the head-to-head 5-6.

They are, however, yet to play on grass, a surface which neither player has won a WTA title on.

Only time will tell if we will see Gauff and Sabalenka play one another for a 12th time in the Wimbledon final, but it will certainly be worth tuning in for.

The 2025 Wimbledon tournament is scheduled to begin on Monday, June 30.
