Iga Swiatek was a class above at Wimbledon in 2025, winning the first grass-court title of her career.
The Pole had struggled, by her standards, during the first few months of the 2025 WTA season, before bouncing back on grass.

After reaching the final of the Bad Homburg Open, Swiatek carried that momentum forward to the Wimbledon Championships.
Dropping just one set all tournament, Swiatek won Wimbledon, defeating Amanda Anisimova, 6-0, 6-0 in the final.
Reflecting on her efforts at the All England Club, American tennis legend Andy Roddick shared what he noticed happen to Swiatek during the tournament.

During the latest episode of ‘Served with Andy Roddick‘, Roddick gave his verdict on Swiatek’s 2025 Wimbledon campaign.
“Iga [Swiatek], turning her season around at Wimbledon, that was a crazy story,” he said.
“It’s Iga, so we expect great things, and we’ve been preconditioned to her being one of the best with Aryna [Sabalenka] and Ash [Barty] of her generation.
“But not coming through on clay, looking bad at times on your favorite surface, and then somehow finding a way to be dominant on your worst surface.

“That’s the stuff that legends are made of.
“That’s crazy. We’ll see where it goes from here.”
Roddick was watching from the stands when he saw Swiatek finally work out how to play her best tennis on the grass.
“Even though the matches weren’t dramatic, I’m going, oh my god, it just clicked, you could see it click,” he said.

“She knows how to play on this surface now, and it all worked out.
“I thought that was a very underrated part of the year, I thought she was fantastic.
“I hadn’t been to Wimbledon in forever, and I sat there and watched that day, she played Danielle Collins, I’m going, maybe I just haven’t seen enough grass, not on TV for a while, but I left thinking, she can win this tournament!

“I thought that was phenomenal as well.”
Swiatek will no doubt look to deliver another Wimbledon masterclass in 2026, but won’t want to suffer another poor clay-court campaign…
What went wrong for Iga Swiatek on clay in 2025?
The Polish star entered the clay-court season low on confidence, having lost several close matches earlier in the year.
On clay, Swiatek lost to two of the best players in women’s tennis, and two other familiar foes.
At the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix, Swiatek lost her sixth straight match against Latvia’s Jelena Ostapenko.

And, at the Italian Open, Swiatek lost to Danielle Collins, as one of the strangest rivalries in women’s tennis took another turn.
She also lost to Coco Gauff (Madrid), and Aryna Sabalenka (Roland Garros), two players who know their way around a clay court.
For anybody else, that wouldn’t be considered a bad season, but for a player of Swiatek’s calibre, fans were starting to worry.
2025 was the first year Swiatek failed to win a clay-court title since before she won her first French Open in 2020.
