Qinwen Zheng has been one of the most impressive players on the WTA Tour in 2024.

Following an impressive summer the 22-year-old has produced some strong results during the Asian swing.

2024 is certainly Zheng’s breakout season after establishing herself as a top 10 player and claiming three titles.

Fresh off concluding the Asian swing with the Tokyo Open title, Zheng is sparking form heading into the WTA Finals.

What prediction has Andy Roddick made about Qinwen Zheng?

Qinwen Zheng has been making steady strides throughout the year, which began with a run to the Australian Open final in January.

Perhaps her biggest victory of the season came at the Paris Olympics, when Zheng defeated the heavy favourite for the gold medal Iga Swiatek, to reach the final.

Zheng became Olympic champion with a comprehensive victory over Donna Vekic and since the US Open, she has made at least the quarter-finals of every tournament she has entered.

Now firmly established as a top 10 player, Andy Roddick does not expect Zheng to drop out of the top eight and only sees her going higher.

“Qinwen is on fire. Wins this week in Tokyo, Wuhan semis, quarters of the US Open, and won the gold medal,” Roddick told listeners on his ‘Served podcast’.

“She’s still seven in the world but she has created so much space between seven and eight and that next little cluster of Emma Navarro plus three or four, she is not leaving the top eight for the foreseeable future.

“Normally you see results like this when you see someone win, semi-finals in the four and they jump three or four spots. She hasn’t but that’s just because Pegula made finals in the US Open and Coco did well. It’s staked one through six, but she is closer to six now that she is to eight.”

What has Qinwen Zheng said about the WTA Finals?

Zheng will conclude her season by competing in the WTA FInals for the first time.

She clinched one of the last remaining spots in the tournament and joins Swiatek, Aryna Sabalenka, Coco Gauff, Jessica Pegula, Elena Rybakina, Jasmine Paolini and Barbora Krejčíková.

It will be a tough challenge for the Zheng, but she is ready to test herself against the best. “All the players [in Riyadh] are really tough to beat,” the Olympic Champion said.

“Since the first match, [I] need to be focused. … It’s the first time for me to play in the WTA Finals. I was so motivated. But let’s see what’s going to happen.”
