The hot topic ahead of Wimbledon getting underway on Monday is whether or not Novak Djokovic will be fit to take his place in the main draw.
Djokovic has won the title on seven occasions and he will be desperate to try and pull level on eight titles with the legendary Roger Federer.
The 37-year-old was forced to withdraw from Roland Garros at the quarter-final stage earlier this month after picking up a knee problem.
After having surgery, Djokovic has been spotted on practice courts ahead of Wimbledon and Roddick has been discussing the notion of whether he’s going to play or not.
Andy Roddick in trouble for something he said about Novak Djokovic
Roddick has found himself apologising on the latest episode of the Served with Andy Roddick Podcast.
It was over something he said about believing Djokovic would be ready to play at Wimbledon on the basis that videos of his practice were shared on social media.
The three-time Wimbledon finalist said: “I hope Novak plays. I’m amazed that we are seeing what we’re seeing, and I also I got in trouble for basically saying it’s his choice to put out videos which obviously brings attention, brings speculation, we talk about him more based on the information we have.
“He is providing a lot of information right now. Is that crazy? There is a world where he would have wanted to be secretive about it. He is showing us, he is wanting to present an image of strength and health going into this off-week. That is a choice.
“If there are no videos and no commentary, we don’t know anything. Maybe our conversations are the same as they were two weeks ago. He is inviting us in for a look into his recovery through putting out content. Is it that crazy for me to say?”
Roddick right with the point made about Djokovic ahead of Wimbledon
The former US Open champion knows his stuff when it comes to tennis and he’s got a point here.
Why would Djokovic risk looking foolish by posting videos of himself getting back into the swing of things if he wasn’t going to play?
Furthermore, why would he even travel to Wimbledon if there was even a chance that he might not make the tournament?
Wimbledon wouldn’t quite be the same without a man who has won seven titles on Centre Court.
Djokovic knows that at 37 he can’t afford to hang around if he’s going to equal and then eclipse the record number of eight titles claimed by Federer.
We fully expect to see Djokovic out on the court in the coming weeks and it’s hard to disagree with what Roddick is saying here.
