Andy Roddick has expressed his concern for Jannik Sinner as his fitness issues continue.
The Italian’s troublesome hip affected his performance against Andrey Rublev in the Canadian Open quarter-finals.
He suffered a shock 3-6, 6-1, 2-6 defeat to the Russian, who made it to Monday’s final but Rublev was beaten by Australia’s Alexi Popyrin.
Along with his impressive performances this season, Sinner’s fitness woes continue to linger and it is a major talking point heading into the Cincinnati Masters and US Open.
What did Andy Roddick say about Jannik Sinner’s fitness issues?
Plenty of tennis players over the years have had to battle numerous injury issues in what is such a physical and gruelling sport with a hectic schedule. Roddick has previously spoken about Sinner’s injury troubles on his podcast and he has done so yet again.
Sinner is fighting a battle with his body at the moment, and Andy Roddick hopes that such a talented player’s career will not be significantly impacted by health issues.
“Sinner is going to look to improve but a point to concern is that his loss against Rublev, when it gets deep into a third set, you see him start rubbing those hips again and that’s the same thing that was bothering him early in the year,” the American said during his ‘Served’ podcast.
“It started in Madrid, he didn’t have a lot of reps going into Roland Garros, played Halle and won and played well at Wimbledon and came up short in the quarters.
“But something that lasts for months, missed the Olympics because he wasn’t feeling well, it feels like he is fighting his body a bit right now. Hopefully he can find a run of good health.”

Jannik Sinner has suffered multiple injury or health issues in 2024
Sinner’s injury issues in 2024 began when he pulled out of his quarter-final match with Felix Auger-Aliassime due to a hip issue.
The hip injury prevented Sinner from playing at the Italian Open, but he recovered in time to compete at the French Open where he reached the semi-finals for the first time.
After entering Wimbledon fresh off winning the Halle Open title, Sinner was struck by illness during his quarter-final defeat to Daniil Medvedev.
A bout of tonsilitis meant Sinner missed the Paris Olympic Games, before a hip gave him trouble in Canada.
Can Sinner stay injury-free in Cincinnati and the US Open? He believes he will and the tennis world wants the same.
