Andy Roddick wants changes to be made to the tennis event at the Olympic Games following the latest edition in Paris.
There were some intriguing storylines to follow throughout the week of compelling action, such as Rafael Nadal’s doubles partnership with Carlos Alcaraz and the retirement of Andy Murray.
But the story that took all the headlines was Novak Djokovic finally completing the golden slam by defeating Alcaraz in the final to become Olympic champion.
Andy Roddick was very entertained by what he saw, but there was one thing the American took an issue with.
What does Andy Roddick want to see changed in the Olympic tennis event?
Unlike previous years, tennis players are no longer awarded ranking points for winning a medal at the Olympic Games.
Therefore, Djokovic does not receive an increase to his rankings tally in 2024 after achieving a lifelong dream of becoming Olympic Champion, which left Roddick feeling frustrated.
This is something the 2003 US Open champion believes needs to change, and explained this further on his ‘Served Podcast’.
“There is nobody who can tell me that Novak shouldn’t get some benefit to his ranking from this event. We used to have points and we took them away,” Roddick said.
“Let’s just be smart. I understand you will get Twitter fingers [saying] you should play for your country. They played for their country anyway! There is nothing to show for it. Nobody is getting paid.
“I’m not saying you should get paid, you should not get paid to play in the Olympics. But you should have points. All the time you get all the best players in one place and you are beating them, you should get something. I don’t get it.”

Andy Roddick congratulated Novak Djokovic on becoming Olympic champion
Djokovic finally became Olympic champion when he produced arguably his best performance this year to defeat Alcaraz 7-6(2), 7-6(3) in the final.
In the process he became just the fifth player to win all four Slams and an Olympic gold medal after Steffi Graff, Andre Agassi, Serena Williams and his great rival, Rafael Nadal.
Roddick took to social media platform X to pay tribute to the Serbian after the latest achievement in his illustrious career.
“The willpower. Can’t explain the effort I just witnessed from Nole. GOAT,” he wrote. “To get one last chance, tell everyone what your priority is, and deliver against the current best. Emotional stuff. Lucky to see it. Props.”
