Coco Gauff is preparing for another opportunity to win the French Open.

The clay court major has been the American’s most consistent Grand Slam, after not failing to reach at least the quarter-finals since 2020.

In fact, Gauff has lost her last three matches at Roland Garros to four-time champion Iga Swiatek, who beat the American to claim her second title in Paris in 2022.

But with the Pole in wretched form and Coco Gauff back at the World number two spot, she has a real shot at winning the title for the first time.

Andy Roddick and Jon Wertheim agree on how Coco Gauff will do at the French Open

Gauff has shown her she has what it takes to win the French Open and would be the champion had it not been for the WTA’s best clay court player in Swiatek.

She reached the semi-finals a year ago after solid performances in Madrid in Rome and she repeated that feat in 2025 by reaching the finals of those two WTA 1000 events.

Her improved form and record at the French Open make her top contender for the crown. Therefore, both Andy Roddick and Jon Wertheim agree on believing Gauff will reach the French Open final.

“I have Coco going to the final,” Roddick said via his ‘Served’ podcast. “We have one vs two on both sides. But at the end of the day they are the best players in the world for a reason.”

Wertheim added: “If this were a classic debate show we would make sure we were on opposite sides of the bed but I have the exact same thing.

“Big limb we are jumping out on here. I have the number one player beating the number two player in the finals.”

Coco Gauff will try to match Serena Williams feat at the French Open

Gauff will aim to win her second Grand Slam title and a first since the 2023 US Open.

Should she do so, Gauff would become the first American woman to win Roland Garros since Serena Williams in 2015.

A decade ago Williams defeated Lucie Safarova in three sets to claim third and final title at the clay court Grand Slam.

Gauff has been placed in the bottom half of the draw and cannot face defending champion Swiatek or World number one Aryna Sabalenka until the final.

However, she can face Jasmine Paolini in the final, who has won their last two meetings, including the Italian Open final.
