Andy Murray sent an emotional message to Novak Djokovic before he is due to retire from tennis.

The Brit has confirmed that the Olympic Games will be the final tournament of a glittering career that spanned almost 20 years.

He has chosen to bid farewell at an event where he has enjoyed plenty of success and experienced some of his happiest moments on court.

Some of Murray’s greatest tennis moments took place with Djokovic on the other side of the net, and he took time to acknowledge the role the Serbian has played in his career.

What message did Andy Murray send to Novak Djokovic?

Murray spent his entire career competing in the toughest era of men’s tennis with Djokovic, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal.

Some of the Brit’s greatest matches took place against the 24-time Grand Slam champion and competing against him certainly helped to improve Murray’s level.

Ahead of his retirement, Murray took to Instagram to share a series of photos with Djokovic alongside a heartfelt message.

“Rivals, doubles partners, friends & lovers?,” Murray joked. “Thanks for the 25 years of competition and good luck for the rest of your career.”

Did Andy Murray and Novak Djokovic play at the Olympic games?

Murray and Djokovic are in Paris playing their fifth and final Olympic Games. Murray won successive gold medals in 2012 and 2016, while Djokovic is still searching for Olympic singles gold.

Due to Murray no longer playing singles at the Paris Games and just focusing on doubles, there is no chance of facing Djokovic, who is only playing singles.

However, the pair played at the Olympic Games on one previous occasion, and it was Murray who emerged victorious.

At the London Games in 2012, Murray claimed a 7-5, 7-5 win in the semi-finals, before reaching the final and defeating Federer to win the first of his two Olympic gold medals.
