Wimbledon is set to take place for the first time since Andy Murray’s retirement.

The 38-year-old had been a prominent part of the grass court season for the better part of the last two decades.

With Murray no longer an active player, Jack Draper has firmly stepped into the role the three-time Grand Slam champion once had as Britain’s leading player.

The fourth seed has positioned himself as a top contender for the title, which he will try to win nine years after Murray clinched his second and final Wimbledon crown.

Will Andy Murray attend the Wimbledon Championships this year?

The 148th edition of the Wimbledon Championships is set to commence on Monday.

Draper is set to make his fourth appearance at the event and will aim for his best run at the Grand Slam to date.

On the other hand, world number two Carlos Alcaraz is aiming for a third successive Wimbledon title, while Novak Djokovic is searching for a record 25th major and eighth at SW19.

There are plenty of storylines going into Wimbledon this year, but Andy Murray does not plan on seeing any of them unfold in person, unless one of two things happens.

“I don’t have any plans to go. I’m not working there. I don’t go to watch tennis as a fan,” Murray told The Guardian. “But if one of my kids wanted to go along and watch, I obviously would take them.

“Or if a British player made the final I would go. I went to the Djokovic v Alcaraz final a couple of years ago, just because I had a feeling it was going to be a great match. But I won’t be there otherwise.”

Andy Murray assesses Jack Draper’s chances at Wimbledon

Whether Murray is at Wimbledon or not, he will be keeping an eye on Draper’s performances.

There is plenty of excitement around Draper and seeing what he can do at the All-England Club as the fourth seed.

Murray spent some time around the Indian Wells champion during his younger years and he also competed against him duringhis career.

Ahead of Wimbledon, Murray thinks Draper will handle the pressure at Wimbledon very well. “He has obviously shot up the rankings and had some amazing wins,” Draper told BBC Sport about Murray.

“It will obviously be a little bit different this year coming in as a top seed but he’ll deal with it well. He’s played in difficult environments and under pressure before, and I’m sure he’ll cope with it well.”
