Andrey Rublev is through to the final of the Montreal Open following his win against Matteo Arnaldi yesterday.
The Russian performer has come into some form during the hard court season and will hope to overcome Alexei Popyrin in the final.
At 26-years-old, Rublev is still waiting to really enjoy a breakthrough event on the professional tennis circuit when it comes to major events.
He’s never gone beyond the quarter-final of a grand slam and at Wimbledon was knocked out in the first round by Francisco Comesana.
Rublev also lost in the third round at the French Open – although he did make the last eight at the Australian Open before losing to Jannik Sinner.
The smaller events have not always proved an issue, however, and when it comes to playing over three sets he’s performing just fine.

Andrey Rublev has now done something that nobody else has managed in 2024
The player now stands alone when it comes to doing something on the tour this year.
In reaching the final of the Montreal Open he has now become the first male player to reach two ATP 1000 finals in 2024.
His other final appearances came in Madrid when he defeated Felix Auger-Aliassime to claim the silverware.
Now, he will go into the final against Popyrin as the favourite and he will fancy claiming his second ATP 1000 title of the year.
With Cincinnati coming next week and the US Open following that, this does look like a good time for Rublev to come into some form.
Rublev will have his eyes on bigger prizes
Seeing his compatriot Daniil Medvedev reach finals and semi-finals of big events must have Rublev feeling somewhat envious.
He will want to climb the world rankings once again having been number five in the world in 2021.
Right now he sits at eighth and he will understand that for a player of his quality, not reaching the business end of major tournaments simply won’t do.
This past week should put him in good stead for the rest of the year.
Now, he will hope to get another title to his name and make it 17 for his career with a win over Popyrin.
