After his run to the French Open semi-final, Jannik Sinner is now the new men’s world number one.
It had already been confirmed before his loss to Carlos Alcaraz, the eventual winner, due to Novak Djokovic’s retirement from the tournament.
However, to achieve such a feat at such a young age remains a truly outstanding accomplishment, especially given what he came through to reach that level.
Sinner’s injury woes in the run-up to Roland Garros threatened his mere presence in Paris, and yet he was never deterred, and has earned all the acclaim now coming his way.
Andre Agassi and Roger Federer praise Jannik Sinner
In an effort to truly offer Sinner the praise his latest accomplishment deserves, the ATP gathered a legendary roster of stars to sing his praises in their official X account.
The list consists of the likes of Andy Murray, Andy Roddick, John McEnroe, Bjorn Borg, Lleyton Hewitt and Jim Courier, just to name a few, but of the incredible line-up, two stood out.
Andre Agassi was the first to offer his congratulations: ‘Hey Jannik, Andre here. Let me be one of the many to congratulate you on being the number one tennis player in the world. That is one heck of an achievement and I can’t think of anybody that deserves it more than you.
‘Here’s kind of a cool way to look at it. If the universe had a tennis tournament, Earth would pick you. How cool is that?
‘Enjoy, keep getting better, you’re awesome for the game.’
Roger Federer would then follow that up by noting: ‘Hey Jannik! Many congratulations also from my side for becoming world number one. I think this is, for me personally, maybe the ultimate achievement. I’m sure you’re incredibly happy, you should be so proud.
‘I’m sure also Italy is loving you right now, as they should being the first Italian player ever to be world number one is incredible. I couldn’t be happier for you, you’re a great person, great player, and I wish you only the best for the future Jannik. Take care, I’ll see you soon.’
Jannik Sinner’s stunning 2024 has earned this
Whilst he had started to build towards such success, few likely expected that it would come so soon, and with such speed.
After all, at the back end of 2023 he had already begun to star, winning in Vienna in October, before then finishing off his season with the Davis Cup and the ATP Tour Finals.
Funnily enough, he faced off against Djokovic in both of these events, playing him on three separate occasions.

The Italian would win two of those meetings.
Then, beating the Serbian again as he won his first Grand Slam title in Melbourne, he has only gone from strength to strength, winning Rotterdam and Miami whilst also reaching the semi-finals in Indian Wells, Monte Carlo and now Roland Garros.
His 33-3 record in 2024 is truly stunning, and it would be hard to argue that, on form, he is not the best player in the world. Therefore, his place at the top of the rankings is well deserved, as is the adulation he is amassing from such legendary figures.
