Amanda Anisimova claimed her first win at this season’s WTA Finals after coming back from a set down to beat Madison Keys.
The 24-year-old’s campaign at the year-end tournament was in danger of coming to an end after Keys drew first blood in the contest.
Anisimova turned it around in set two, however, to force a decider before ultimately emerging victorious 4-6, 6-3, 6-2.

Having knocked her US compatriot out of the competition, she will face Iga Swiatek next, with the winner set to advance to the semifinals.
Atop the Serena Williams group is Elena Rybakina, who has now made tennis history with Anisimova’s triumph.
Elena Rybakina makes history for her country at the WTA Finals
Prior to Anisimova’s meeting with Keys, Rybakina clinched her second victory at the WTA Finals against Swiatek in a remarkable comeback victory.
The Kazakh star, who won her first match in Riyadh against Anisimova, has officially booked her place in the semifinals following the second match of the day.
She is now the first player from her country in tennis history to reach the final four at the WTA Finals.
Rybakina featured at the tournament in 2023 and 2024, but was knocked out in the group stage in both appearances.
The former Wimbledon champion is enjoying an impressive run of form, and is certainly a dark horse to go all the way in Saudi Arabia.

Amanda Anisimova’s record against Iga Swiatek ahead of their tie
Anisimova will face Swiatek for the third time in her career at the WTA Finals, with all three bouts coming in 2025.
Their first matchup came in the Wimbledon final during the summer, where Swiatek dominated Anisimova 6-0, 6-0 to hoist the title.
The US star got revenge at the US Open in September, however, beating the Pole in straight sets en route to the final.
- Wimbledon Final: Swiatek beats Anisimova 6-0, 6-0
- US Open Quarterfinal: Anisimova beats Swiatek 6-4, 6-3
In Riyadh, they will clash on a hard court for just the second time, as both stars seek to reach the semifinals of the prestigious tournament.
Swiatek last made the semifinals of the WTA Finals in 2023, when she went on to win the event for the first time.
Anisimova, on the other hand, is enjoying her debut appearance at the WTA Finals and is looking to cap off her most successful year on tour so far in the best way possible.
