Amanda Anisimova continued her bid to return to the Wimbledon final on Thursday with a win over compatriot Sofia Kenin.
The American was forced to a tiebreak in the third after splitting sets with Kenin, but came out on top in the shootout to win 6-2, 4-6, 7-6
Anisimova recorded her best Wimbledon campaign last year, reaching the championship match and beating world number one Aryna Sabalenka en route.
What was the biggest shock from the first round of Wimbledon this year?
Plenty to choose from…
She ultimately fell to Iga Swiatek in the final, suffering a 6-0, 6-0 defeat to the Pole.
After starting the 2026 Championships well, Anisimova has revealed she has revisited a method she tried in London last year to help her mentality between matches.

Amanda Anisimova says riding the London tube helps her switch off
In 2025, Anisimova revealed she rides the London tube between matches because it helps her switch off mentally.
“I actually took it the first day I got here,” said Anisimova in her press conference after beating Kenin. “But it was because I got lazy walking. I was supposed to walk my way back, and I ended up taking one to just take one stop.
“Yeah, it’s fun for me because it’s not something I do in Miami. I drive a lot in Miami and I don’t like it. So when I’m in other cities where the train is an option, which I know sounds so strange, I just find it like a fun thing to do, something I normally end up doing alone.
Who is your favorite player on the WTA Tour right now?
“I think it’s a good way for me to switch off and turn my mind off of things. It means I’m going to go somewhere. I’m going to go explore. I normally associate it with something I’m doing in my off time.
“Yeah, it’s been great here so far. I feel like I’ve been mostly relaxing. Wimbledon is definitely one of the more chill events, which I enjoy.”

Amanda Anisimova looks ahead to her next opponent at Wimbledon
In the third round of Wimbledon, Anisimova will take on another compatriot in the form of Madison Keys.
Asked about Keys’ game, Anisimova said: “I think when I play someone who’s hitting hard or aggressive, I feel like it helps me raise my level. I feel like oftentimes when I’m playing a hard hitter, the quality of the match is a lot better. Just I think that the matchup makes me play better tennis.
“When I’m playing someone scrappy, I adjust my game. If they’re slicing the ball, I have to kind of change things up from how I normally play.
“Yeah, I mean, at the end of the day, I still try to do the same things and still play my tennis, try to stick to the same things I always try to do.
“I feel like when I look historically at playing the bigger hitters, then I think that I always raise my level and I play some great tennis. I always look forward to those matches.”
Anisimova leads the head-to-head with Keys 1-0, having beaten her at the 2025 WTA Finals.
