Amanda Anisimova is among the high-profile players to have suffered a shock early exit from Roland Garros.
Anisimova drew home favorite Diane Parry in round three of the clay-court Grand Slam in Paris, where she was beaten 3-6, 6-4, 7-6(10-3).
The major upset arrived after the sixth seed beat Tiantsoa Sarah Rakotomanga Rajaonah 6-3, 6-1, and a walkover against Julia Grabher as she led 6-0.
Anisimova has been named the best player without a Slam, with her drought now set to continue until at least Wimbledon.
The American did, however, reveal that she was dealing with an unfortunate issue during her shock exit from Roland Garros.

Amanda Anisimova reveals issue during Roland Garros exit
WTA number six Anisimova said in the French capital: “I thought from the beginning, it was really tough for me because it was really hot, and I’m not feeling my best physically.
“I didn’t train yesterday, so I was dealing with something, so yeah, for me, it was really hard out there.
“I tried to do my best until the last moment, but I feel like it was just getting worse and worse for me through the match. A lot of mistakes.
“Yeah, was just really, really disappointing for me, but I get it at the same time, she was playing well, she stayed calm, and she did all the right things, so yeah, all I can really do is accept that that’s the way it was.
“And then also in the end, I got, like a bunch of blisters on my hand, so it was really hard for me to hold the racket, and hit the ball, so just a really unfortunate day.”

Amanda Anisimova issues ‘positive’ wrist injury update
Anisimova didn’t play on clay until Roland Garros, having been forced out of the Italian Open with a wrist injury.
Now providing an update on the problem after her surprise defeat at the Grand Slam, she said: “You know, I mean, apart from this [illness], not bad, actually. I’m okay physically.
“Kind of hard to assess, and I feel like even considering everything I could have played better, so pretty disappointed.
“So probably just need to figure some things out for what to do differently next time, but yeah, my wrist feels not so bad after a few matches, so it’s a positive for sure.”
Hopefully she can get back to 100% as soon as possible after her exit from Roland Garros, which is followed in the Grand Slam schedule by Wimbledon and the US Open.
| Result | Year | Tournament | Surface | Opponent | Score |
| Loss | 2025 | Wimbledon | Grass | Iga Swiatek | 0–6, 0–6 |
| Loss | 2025 | US Open | Hard | Aryna Sabalenka | 3–6, 6–7(3–7) |
And history is very much on Anisimova’s side in terms of those two events, with the 24-year-old having reached both finals in 2025.
She did, however, miss out on the trophy on both occasions, losing to Iga Swiatek in London and Aryna Sabalenka in New York.
