Amanda Anisimova was certainly not the crowd favorite for her fourth round match against Xinyu Wang.
Anisimova enjoyed a breakout season in 2025, reaching two Grand Slam finals and breaking into the top five of the WTA rankings for the first time.
As a result of her success last year, many have predicted Anisimova to win Grand Slam titles, including this year at the Australian Open.
Anisimova has now achieved her best result at the Australian Open after reaching the quarterfinals, but she did not have it easy against Xinyu Wang.

Amanda Anisimova says if she thinks the Chinese fans were ‘disrespectful’
Anisimova beat Wang, 7-6(4) 6-4, to win her fourth consecutive straight sets match at the Australian Open this year.
Although she is yet to lose a set in Melbourne this year, Anisimova was certainly not the fan favorite during her fourth round match.
Wang was receiving the majority of the support from the Chinese fans inside John Cain Arena, which could have been difficult for Anisimova to handle.
Despite this, Anisimova actually claimed that she thought the Chinese fans were ‘great’ and said they were not ‘disrespectful at all’.
“Yeah, there were a lot of fans from China today,” Anisimova said in her on-court interview. “Honestly it made the atmosphere so great. I don’t find it disrespectful at all.
“They were just really loud so it made the energy really fun. It wasn’t for me but I was just pretending like it was getting rowdy out there. It was great. I really appreciate everyone sitting here through the heat.”

Xinyu Wang reveals if she thinks Chinese tennis fans are better than Filipino fans
Due to the variety of cultures in Melbourne, there have been a lot of different supporters at the Australian Open this year.
Perhaps the most talked about crowd came in the first round, when Filipina Alexandra Eala’s match was crowded by supporters.
Although they made a lot of noise, Wang believes that the Chinese fans are actually better than the Filipino supporters.
“Yeah, I mean, not just today. This past week I’m feeling like I feel all the love, all the support from them,” Wang said when asked about Chinese fans in her post-match press conference. “You know, we always talking about Eala and how she gets so much support from the Filipinos.
“But I think if you look at it, I think the Chinese fans, they’re even, I would say, honestly, even better. Yeah, I’m going to leave it, like, there.
“Also, they’re coming to my match and then, because you can tell, like, there are a lot of fans that have been following me for, like, longer periods already. So I really appreciate that. I hope to see them more often.”
Who is your favorite player on the WTA Tour right now?
After beating Wang in the fourth round, Anisimova will now compete against her fellow American Jessica Pegula.
Anisimova is the highest ranked player of the two Americans, but it is actually Pegula who has won all three of their previous meetings.
