Amanda Anisimova saw her Canadian Open campaign come to an end after she was beaten by Elina Svitolina.
Anisimova was playing her first tournament since losing the Wimbledon final, and there did not appear to be any sense of a hangover from it.
The world number seven was particularly impressive in her third round match, with Anisimova beating the in-form Emma Raducanu in comfortable fashion.
However, Anisimova was unable to continue her momentum against Svitolina and was beaten in straight sets.

Amanda Anisimova posts message on social media after Canadian Open exit
Anisimova reached the Canadian Open final last year, in what was a major step to her making a resurgent climb back up the WTA rankings.
The American was looking to go one better in 2025, but Anisimova was beaten in the fourth round by Svitolina, 6-4 6-1.
This was a stark difference from Anisimova’s impressive performance against Raducanu, leaving tennis fans with many questions about what happened to the Wimbledon finalist.
Now, Anisimova has provided some clarity as to why she was unable to produce her top level in a new post on Instagram, confirming that she was feeling under the weather.
She wrote, “Fell a bit ill today, but gave it my all regardless (prayer and heart emojis). “Thank you always Canada.”
What is next for Amanda Anisimova?
As a result of Anisimova being unable to match her performance at the Canadian Open last year, she will drop 530 ranking points and drop one place down to world number eight.
However, she now has an opportunity to make some ground on her fellow top 10 rivals at the Cincinnati Open.
After reaching the Canadian Open final last year, Anisimova elected to skip the Cincinnati Open and therefore has no ranking points to defend.
| Year | Amanda Anisimova’s Result |

| 2022 | Gave a walkover to Shelby Rogers in the second round |
Anisimova has never surpassed the third round of the Cincinnati Open before, which she managed when she was just 16 years old.
The big boost for Anisimova in 2025 is that she will be seeded at the Cincinnati Open for the first time, and is already guaranteed to receive a bye to the second round where she will play an unseeded player.
Cincinnati will host its annual ATP/WTA 1000 event, beginning on Thursday, August 7.
