Alexander Zverev is a player with an abundance of talent but he’s still waiting to crack it at a Grand Slam. Now, he’s been discussing which of this year’s events he feels like he has the most chance of winning.
The German player raced into the last 16 of the Miami Open last night. He thrashed Chris Eubanks 7-6, 6-3 to set up a clash with Karen Khachanov for a place in the last eight.
Zverev was perhaps a little bit unlucky at the Australian Open at the start of the year. He ran into an inspired Daniil Medvedev in the semi-final and he was beaten despite leading by two sets to love.
Now, the German player who has reached a US Open final back in 2020 has his sights on the other majors. He’s been explaining after his latest win which of this year’s events he fancies winning the most.
Alexander Zverev predicts which major he’s most likely to win this year
Well, much like every other player, he’s gunning for success in the Grand Slam events. The 26-year-old will be hoping to keep playing well and trouble some of the world’s top players at future events.
Right now, Zverev is sitting at number five in the world. He will be wanting to push on in that sense too and get back to the number two spot that he occupied in 2022.
Now, he’s been suggesting that he’s earmarked one Grand Slam in particular for success this year.
He told the Tennis Channel: “I mean I hope so, right? For me, I’ve said that for the last few years, the French Open has kind of always [had] a cross on the calendar, the marked time for me.
“Australia I played well, won the United Cup with Germany which was great, and a lot of fun as a team, in Melbourne it felt like I was super close to being in a final and who knows what can happen in a final.
“That started off well, but of course, I want to win. I want to feel these winning moments again like I did before the injury. I’m doing everything I can to get there.”
Zverev is surely a future major winner
In our view, the player will surely win a major at some point during his career. He’s been to two semi-finals in Australia, three in France and a final at the US Open.
Zverev hasn’t performed well at Wimbledon. He’s never reached beyond the fourth round and that’s perhaps something else that he’d like to rectify this year too.
It’s intriguing to hear that Zverev fancies success at the French Open. Now, it will be intriguing to see what shape he’s in for that tournament and whether or not he can claim glory.
