Alexander Zverev is feeling good ahead of his Roland Garros quarter-final showdown with Casper Ruud.
The 26-year-old completed a far from straightforward win over Alex de Minaur to reach the French Open semi-finals for the fourth successive year.
It has been a tumultuous tournament for the fourth seed, who came through successive five set matches against Tallon Griekspoor and Holger Rune before beating de Minaur.
He is now one match away from reaching his first final at the clay court Grand Slam and just the second of his career overall.
What did Alexander Zverev say about his fitness?
Following his 6-4, 7-6(5), 6-4 win over de Minaur, Zverev was feeling confident about his chances against Casper Ruud in the semi-finals.
The Norwegian did not touch a racket to reach the last four in Paris as his scheduled quarter-final opponent Novak Djokovic pulled out due to injury. Following his gruelling matches over the tournament, Zverev issued a positive assessment of his fitness.
“I said physically I feel good. I’m pretty sure that Casper is back to 100% now with a three day break. But there’s no question I feel good physically,” the German told reporters.
“I don’t have any worries anywhere on my body. So I hope it stays that way and I can show a good match.”

Alexander Zverev is looking for revenge on Casper Ruud at the French Open
Zverev will face Ruud in the French Open semi-finals for a second successive year. In 2023, the 25-year-old claimed a 6-3 6-4 6-0 victory to progress to the championship match a year ago.
In fact, Ruud has won his last two encounters with Zverev and levelled their head to head rivalry at two wins apiece. If he is to get the victory over Ruud on Friday, Tim Henman urged Zverev to clean up some aspects of his game.
“When you win in three straight sets in a grand slam quarter-final you have got to be playing pretty well. I think the interesting thing for Zverev is he can play better,” the Brit told Eurosport.
“He can serve a bit more consistently. He can be more aggressive and he still made quite a few unforced errors tonight. It was good enough to get the job done against Alex de Minaur. Against Casper Ruud I think he needs to step it up and I think he will.”
