Alexander Zverev is into the fourth round at Roland Garros for the eighth consecutive year, and will face Tallon Griekspoor for a place in the quarter-finals.

Zverev overcame 23-year-old Flavio Cobolli in straight sets, defeating the Italian 6-2, 7-6, 6-1 in the third round.

The world number three is still in search of a maiden Grand Slam title and came close at Roland Garros last year, when he finished runner-up to Carlos Alcaraz.

Defending champion Alcaraz has had a rocky start to his campaign in Paris this year, and almost let Damir Dzumhur back into their third-round clash after dropping a set, but Zverev doesn’t seem to think that matters in the grand scheme of things.

Alexander Zverev predicts how far Carlos Alcaraz will go at Roland Garros

When asked about Alcaraz dropping a set in his second and third round matches, Zverev said: “It doesn’t matter.

“I honestly think that Carlos will be in the final, to be very fair. I don’t think there’s anybody on that side of the draw that will challenge him too much.

“He’s the favourite before coming into the tournament. Everybody kind of realised that. All the people who can challenge him, all the contenders, are in the top half of the draw.

“So I think we will all have to really battle it out, and I think he will enjoy watching it.”

Carlos Alcaraz’s potential route to the 2025 Roland Garros final

In round four, Alcaraz will face Ben Shelton in a blockbuster match, marking their first meeting on clay.

Should he advance past the American, one of Tommy Paul or Alexei Popyrin will await him in the quarter-finals.

Potential semi-final opponents come in the form of Lorenzo Musetti, Holger Rune, Frances Tiafoe, and Daniel Altmaier.

A return to the French Open final for the four-time Grand Slam champion could see him face several ATP stars, including world number one Jannik Sinner, Zverev, or Britain’s Jack Draper.
