Alexander Zverev has another fantastic chance of Grand Slam glory after reaching the semifinals of the Australian Open.

Zverev defeated Learner Tien to reach the final four for the fourth time in Melbourne, where he will take on Carlos Alcaraz.

Alcaraz beat Alex de Minaur to secure his semifinal spot at the Australian Open, which is the only Grand Slam that he has yet to win.

In contrast to the six-time Grand Slam champion, Zverev has reached three Grand Slam finals and has lost all three.

Will Alex de Minaur ever reach a Grand Slam semifinal?

Mats Wilander says Alexander Zverev ‘serves so much better’ than Alex de Minaur

Alcaraz has now been discussed by former ATP number one Mats Wilander ahead of the semifinal showdown at Rod Laver Arena.

“He will probably go into fourth gear against Sacha Zverev,” explained Wilander, as quoted by TNT Sports.

“He probably needs to go into five and six, that’s for sure, because this is a step up against Zverev because he serves so much better than De Minaur and you’re going to have a problem returning that serve.”

Zverev was indeed extremely grateful for his serving against Tien, having hit 24 aces against the American.

Carlos Alcaraz vs Alexander Zverev entire head-to-head record

Alcaraz was certainly the favorite against De Minaur, even with the Australian having been heavily backed by his home fans.

The Spaniard entered the match with a 5-0 head-to-head record over his opponent, but it is a completely different scenario against Zverev.

From their 12 meetings on the ATP Tour, stretching back to 2021, Alcaraz and Zverev cannot be separated at 6-6.

Notably, they have met just once before at the Australian Open, with the German winning their 2024 quarterfinal tie.

But the Spaniard did win their all-important French Open tie in 2024, emerging victorious in their Paris final to lift the prestigious trophy.

An intriguing clash is therefore very much on the cards in Melbourne, with both players fittingly boasting 24 ATP career titles.
