Alexander Zverev offered a hilarious response to whether he will play at the Stuttgart Open.

The German was left bitterly disappointed after losing the Roland Garros final to Carlos Alcaraz in five sets.

He led the match two sets to one after taking sets two and three, but he was unable to match the 21-year-old’s mental strength and elite shotmaking through sets four and five.

After four hours and 19 minutes of intense action, the fourth seed was beaten 6-3 2-6 5-7 6-1 6-2 and his wait for a first Grand Slam title goes on.

Will Alexander Zverev play at the Stuttgart Open?

There is a quick turnaround between the end of the spring clay court season and the grass court season, as the Stuttgart Open commenced on Monday.

Zverev, 27, is on the entry list and has been confirmed as the number one seed at his home tournament.

But during his press conference after the French Open final he made a joke which seemed to imply that he is unlikely to compete after all.

After confirming he is still in the Stuttgart draw, a reporter asked if he will be playing, to which Zverev replied: “We will strongly see about that!

“The chances of me playing Stuttgart are close to me going back out there and winning the final now.”

Has Alexander Zverev won the Stuttgart Open?

Zverev was named in the draw to compete at the Stuttgart Open for the first time since 2019.

Entering as the top seed, in the opening round he took on Dustin Brown, famous for his electric serve and volley game on grass courts.

The German-Jamaican took the first set 6-3 before, before Zverev sent the match into a deciding set by taking set two on a tiebreak.

But the upset was complete by Brown who registered a 6-4, 6-7, 6-3 victory and Zverev has not played the tournament since. However, that will change if he does decide to compete this week.
