Alexander Zverev is currently the world number three, a position he has maintained for the best part of the past two years.
The German is currently on a total of 5,805 ATP points, which is just over 1000 more than fourth-placed Novak Djokovic, but significantly less than the world’s best two players: Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz.
Like everyone else on the tour, Zverev is aiming to close the gap on Sinner and Alcaraz, who continue to dominate men’s tennis.
Is men’s tennis boring without Carlos Alcaraz?
The ‘new two’, as they have been dubbed, split all four Grand Slam titles between them in both 2024 and 2025, and the Italian has already secured the first major in 2026.
Following his latest win at the Italian Open, Zverev revealed there is specific training he does designed solely for clashes with Sinner and Alcaraz.

Alexander Zverev discusses playing top players on the ATP Tour
After beating Alexander Blockx to advance to the fourth round of the Italian Open, Zverev was asked in his post-match press conference if he concentrates on what he has to do to beat the top guys, or if he takes the approach of just simply trying to improve every day.
He responded: “You have to improve every day. Of course, there’s a special focus on the top guys.
“There’s certain practices you do just for them. Yeah, maybe right now they’re not working too well for me (smiling). There’s still those practices where you train for the top guys.
Will Alexander Zverev ever win a Grand Slam title?
“Of course, in general, you always try to improve, you always try to get better every chance you get.
“I’ve been on tour for a long time. I still feel like I improve and I can improve every year. I think if you don’t, you kind of go backwards.”

Alexander Zverev’s record against Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz
Zverev has a losing record against both Sinner and Alcaraz on the ATP Tour, having not beaten either of them in either 2026 or 2025.
He trails Alcaraz 7-6 at tour-level competitions, with his last win over the 23-year-old coming at the 2024 ATP Finals.
Zverev’s head-to-head with Sinner is very one-sided, 10-4, and his drought in the rivalry extends to 2023.
Since Zverev beat Sinner at the 2023 US Open, the latter has emerged victorious in all of their nine recent matches.
