Alexander Bublik has enjoyed a stunning French Open, but for another year, the dream has died for the Kazakhstan player.

In fairness, he came up against Jannik Sinner in the last eight, and right now, he’s showcasing a level of tennis that is pretty much unrivalled on the ATP Tour.

Bublik gained a lot of admirers by beating Jack Draper in the last 16 and earlier in the competition, he sent Alex de Minaur packing despite trailing by two sets to love.

John McEnroe praised Bublik after his exploits against Draper, but taking on the world number one proved to be a bridge too far.

Alexander Bublik posts hilarious reaction after losing to Jannik Sinner

The 27-year-old always plays the game with a smile on his face and is renowned for the odd tweener or underarm serve.

Bublik was a true professional against Sinner, however, and appeared to enjoy himself, despite a resounding 6-1, 7-5, 6-0 defeat.

After the match, the Roland Garros account on Instagram posted a message of thanks to Bublik for entertaining crowds at this year’s tournament.

The player, not willing to let his spirits be dampened, posted a response that was typically hilarious. It read: “I almost got him, guys.”

Bublik will now take serious confidence from this tournament and will go again at Wimbledon looking to climb the rankings further.

Bublik far better than his ranking suggests

This tournament needs to become the sliding doors moment for Bublik, and given his age, there is hope that he can kick on from here.

Bublik’s ability with a tennis racket in his hand has never been in question, but the mental side of the game and his desire to want to win have raised discussion points.

The player is one of the game’s characters, and he’s the sort of player who will have superb support when he’s out on the court.

Bublik will climb the rankings after his exploits in Paris and having been the number 17 in the world as recently as last year, he will now be keen to get back towards the higher echelons once more.
