Alex Eala has been in impressive form ahead of the 2026 Wimbledon Championships.
The Filipina kicked off her grass-court season by clinching her first-ever crown on the surface; a WTA 125 title at the Birmingham Classic
After losing in the second round at Queen’s, Eala then enjoyed a semifinal run at the Berlin Open, where she recorded a number of big wins.

On her way to the final four, the 21-year-old defeated Queen’s champion Donna Vekic, Australian Open champion Elena Rybakina and world number eight Elina Svitolina.
Though she has yet to truly announce herself on the Grand Slam stage, former British player Greg Rusedski thinks Wimbledon will mark her best chance yet to do just that.

Greg Rusedski discusses Alex Eala’s recent form on the WTA Tour
Speaking on ‘Off Court with Greg‘, Rusedski said of Eala: “I mean, to beat Rybakina and Svitolina back-to-back is so impressive and, you know, we talked about it.
“It was just a matter of time before she had that breakthrough, and also the grass courts help her game because it allows her to get a little bit more pace on the ball, stay a little bit earlier.
“And on top of that, being a lefty, the ball just slides a little bit more away with the slice serve as well.
“So it’s good to see her playing so well. And then you put her in a mix to have a good run at Wimbledon.

“So wherever she plays, the crowds are huge, so I can’t wait to see what it’s going to be like in her opening match at Wimbledon this year.
“For Eala, the ball doesn’t get up too high on grass, and it gives a little bit more time, and the ball stays through, especially with her game.
“So I think this is where she makes her best chance to go really deep at a major.”

Alex Eala’s results at Grand Slams in her career so far
Eala, currently ranked 30th in the world, has only ever gone as far as the second round at a Grand Slam tournament.
She made her major debut at the 2025 French Open, where she was beaten in the first round by Emiliana Arango.
After another opening-round exit at Wimbledon that year, Eala clinched her first major win at the US Open over 14th seed Clara Tauson.
The victory over Tauson saw her become the first Filipino player to achieve a match victory in a major tournament in the Open Era.
Eala was ultimately knocked out in round two and has since tallied consecutive first-round losses at the Australian Open and Roland Garros in 2026.
