Alex Eala and Amanda Anisimova both agree that Jannik Sinner will win the Wimbledon men’s singles title this year.
Sinner is already into the second round, although the ATP number one did need five sets to overcome Miomir Kecmanovic.
He is the defending champion at Wimbledon, having beaten Carlos Alcaraz in last year’s final to claim his maiden title.
And Sinner has now been backed by many of his fellow professionals to repeat his success at the All England Club, including Filipina star Eala.
Alex Eala and Amanda Anisimova back Jannik Sinner to win Wimbledon
Asked to predict the men’s champion for Tennis Channel, WTA ace Anisimova said: “I mean I think I’m going to go with Jannik.
“Especially after French Open he’s probably been working really hard, so yeah I’m sure a lot of people will agree with me on that one.”
And they have indeed, with Eala simply saying: “Jannik,” while Emma Navarro and Elina Svitolina also agreed.
However, Marta Kostyuk opted for Novak Djokovic, while Katie Boulter said of her fiancé: “Yeah I mean that’s a pretty tough question for me.
“I’m obviously going to say Alex de Minaur. So yeah, I back him all the way.”
Like Sinner, Djokovic has progressed to round two, while De Minaur plays Roman Andres Burruchaga in his first match.
How would you rate Novak Djokovic’s chances of winning Wimbledon?
Ben Shelton predicts Wimbledon title for Jessica Pegula
Of course, the predictions were not limited to the men’s draw, with a handful of ATP players asked to predict the women’s champion.
Fittingly, De Minaur said on Tennis Channel: “I would love nothing more in this world than for Katie Boulter to win the tournament.”
Meanwhile, Ben Shelton backed his fellow Americans, saying: I’ll go with Jess Pegula… or Serena [Williams].”
Ignacio Buse also referenced the WTA legend, commenting: “Serena Williams. I hope she’s in shape, because it’s demanding, you know. But I hope… I think she has a level.”
How far will Serena Williams go in Wimbledon singles?
The 44-year-old has received a wildcard…
Rafael Jodar said: “I’m going to go with Aryna Sabalenka”, along with Matteo Berrettini, who noted: “I think Aryna in the end is going to win.
“Didn’t win much in the last maybe month, month and a half, so she has that will of coming back.”
And refusing to answer, Andrey Rublev commented: “Don’t ask me those questions, there is no right answer.
“Let the one who deserves to win, win.”
Pegula and Sabalenka are already into the second round at SW19, with Boulter and Williams yet to get underway.
The Briton meets qualifier Tyra Grant in round one of her home Grand Slam, while the American plays Maya Joint in her first singles match in almost four years.
