Alex de Minaur has made a big decision to play one more tournament ahead of the French Open.

De Minaur has struggled for form as of late, having only won four of his last 11 matches on the ATP Tour.

The world number eight is currently on a three-match losing streak, which continued at the Italian Open after De Minaur lost to world number 106 Matteo Arnaldi.

Following his recent results, De Minaur has decided to take a last-minute spot for an ATP tournament that he has never played before.

Previous champions at the Hamburg Open

The Hamburg Open was previously a Masters 1000 tournament, before it was replaced on the calendar by the Madrid Open in 2009 and subsequently downgraded.

As a result, there have been many high-profile former champions at the event, including both Roger Federer (3) and Rafael Nadal (2).

There have also been some big names winning the Hamburg Open since 2020, with all of the recent champions having a career-high ranking inside the world’s top 20.

This includes the aforementioned Zverev, Arthur Fils, Lorenzo Musetti and last year’s winner Cobolli.
