Alex de Minaur will play just his second match of the grass swing in the first round of Wimbledon, where he’ll face Roberto Carballes.
De Minaur crashed out in the first round of Queen’s to eventual runner-up Jiri Lehecka, and hasn’t played a tour-level match since.
The early exit at the ATP 500 event marked the Australian’s first appearance since bowing out in the second round of Roland Garros to Alexander Bublik.
Ahead of his seventh Wimbledon campaign, de Minaur explained why he hasn’t featured at more than one grass-court tune-up tournament in June.

Alex de Minaur explains why he hasn’t played much since Roland Garros
The world number 11 said: “I’m feeling good, I had a little bit of time, obviously, from Queen’s all the way till here.
“Partly why I decided not to play a tournament is to kind of get the body right, and now it feels at a stage where it’s ready to compete, ready to go. And I’m definitely very excited to get started. I feel in a very good space.
“The way I look at it, it’s been a long time brewing, a couple of years on the tour, without having a lot of rest, and going back-to-back, finishing late with Davis Cup, starting early in Australia. Ultimately, it takes its toll, right? And it kind of got me.”
On his break after Roland Garros, he said: “I was able to take a step back, accept what had happened and put myself first for the first time in a while. And I think that was quite crucial, even though it didn’t bring out the result I wanted in Queen’s.
“I do feel in a very good head space going into Wimbledon. I feel refreshed, I feel full of energy. And now it’s up to my tennis to do the talking, right? But there’s no excuse, whether physically or mentally. I feel like I’m ready to go.”

Alex de Minaur’s record on grass over the years
Statistically, grass is de Minaur’s second-best surface, having tallied a win percentage of 64% throughout his career.
His grass record is 32 wins to 18 losses, and he has clinched a title in both ‘s-Hertogenbosch and Eastbourne.
| Surface | Record | Win Percentage |
|---|---|---|
| Clay | 39-37 | 51% |
| Grass | 32-18 | 64% |
| Hard | 205-112 | 65% |
At Wimbledon, de Minaur’s best placement was a quarter-final finish, which he achieved last year, but he had to withdraw from his last-eight matchup with Novak Djokovic due to injury.
Before that, his deepest run was in 2022, when he lost in the fourth round to Cristian Garin in a five-set marathon.
