People love to see him succeed, and by reaching another semi-final in Rotterdam this week, he continues to do just that.
However, this upbeat and easygoing demeanour does not make him someone who shies away from controversy.
In fact, he has leaned into his latest frustration, voicing a complaint about the Rotterdam Open that he feels has impacted the entire tournament.

Chatting with Action Network, the Aussie discussed the ongoing and outstanding issue that has continued to arise throughout this event.
Alex de Minaur echoed Daniil Medvedev’s complaints about the balls by admitting: “Yeah, again today it was as bad as it looked with the ball. It is quite tough to be aggressive, so you have to find the balance between hitting through and not making unforced errors. I am super happy I found a way today, but it was difficult.

“To be honest with you, it is a tough one. I don’t know how much I can get into it, but look… we as players voice our opinions and ultimately do what we can to make the sport as a whole a better product.
“But whenever we talk about certain things with the purpose of growing the game and making it better… sometimes when we voice our opinion, we get viewed or described as being entitled because we have a lot of amazing things in this sport already.
“No one is arguing that, but the moment we are trying to help out and make some comments to try to improve it even more, sometimes they make it sound like we are just complaining.
“Maybe the fact that I am standing here talking about it after winning matches also adds a bit more validity because it is not like I am using it as an excuse.”

Although he may be frustrated with the Rotterdam Open, this issue does not detract from the fact that he has been a consistent threat he has been to the title over the last few years.
In fact, De Minaur surpassed an all-time Roger Federer record at this event recently, having now reached five quarterfinals in a row here.

What’s particularly frustrating is the fact that the 26-year-old has yet to win this ATP 500 event.
He lost to Jannik Sinner in the 2024 final and to Carlos Alcaraz in last year’s final.
Hopefully, with both of these players now absent, De Minaur can finally claim the title in Rotterdam.
