The 2025 WTA Tour season has reached its conclusion, having been filled with plenty of drama and excitement once more.

Aryna Sabalenka ended 2025 as the WTA year-end number one, followed by Iga Swiatek in second place.

American duo Coco Gauff and Amanda Anisimova are in third and fourth respectively, with Elena Rybakina completing the top five.

Rybakina won the WTA Finals in Riyadh at the end of the season, with all five players certain to be real threats in early 2026.

Belinda Bencic climbed 478 places in the WTA rankings over 2025

One player who sits just outside the top 10 is Belinda Bencic, with the Swiss ace currently ranked in 11th place.

It’s a hugely impressive feat on its own, but it is amplified by the fact that she had only just returned from maternity leave.

She started the 2025 season ranked 489th on the WTA Tour, but has risen a staggering 478 places to world number 11.

Bencic finished the campaign with 39 wins and 17 losses, and managed to take her career title tally into double figures.

Belinda Bencic wins two WTA titles in superb 2025 season

Bencic, who had a 2024 year-end rank of 913, secured two titles on the WTA Tour in 2025, emerging victorious in Abu Dhabi and Tokyo.

But she also impressed at Grand Slam level, reaching the semifinals of Wimbledon either side of fourth round and second round exits at the Australian Open and US Open respectively.

It was the first time she’s ever made it to the last four at the All England Club, where she was beaten only by eventual champion Swiatek.

Who will win the 2026 Australian Open?

The future is indeed looking very bright for the 28-year-old, who also reached the semifinals of the US Open back in 2019.

Whether or not she has what it takes to win a Grand Slam remains to be seen, but Bencic can hold her head extremely high following her comeback to professional tennis.
