Just a few weeks into the 2026 season, several lower-ranked players have jumped to the top of the ATP Race to Turin…
The likelihood is that many of them won’t be lining up in Turin this November, but it’s still interesting to see who currently tops the leaderboard.
Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner, and Novak Djokovic have yet to score a single point in 2026, and won’t do so until the Australian Open begins.
Who is the most influential tennis player ever?
While they continue their preparation for the first Grand Slam of the year, others have been hard at work picking up points on the ATP Tour.
So, who are the eight players who would qualify for the ATP Finals if the season ended right now?
The provisional ATP Finals line-up
1. Jakub Mensik
If the season were to end right now, Czechia’s Jakub Mensik would head to Turin as the number-one seed.
Mensik went 1-2 at the United Cup, but soon found his form upon his arrival in New Zealand.
Doubling his ATP title tally, Mensik won the ASB Classic in Auckland.
2. Sebastian Baez
Second, behind Mensik, is the man who lost to him in the ASB Classic final, Sebastian Baez.
The Argentine has been in blistering form this month, winning his first seven matches.
- 2026 United Cup GS [WIN] vs Jaume Munar, 6-4, 6-4
- 2026 United Cup GS [WIN] vs Taylor Fritz, 4-6, 7-5, 6-4
- 2026 United Cup QF [WIN] vs Stan Wawrinka, 7-5, 6-4
- 2026 ASB Classic 1R [WIN] vs Emilio Nava, 4-6, 7-5, 6-3
- 2026 ASB Classic 2R [WIN] vs Jenson Brooksby, 7-5, 6-0
- 2026 ASB Classic QF [WIN] vs Ben Shelton, 7-5, 6-3
- 2026 ASB Classic SF [WIN] vs Marcos Giron, 6-1, 6-4
- 2026 ASB Classic F [LOSS] vs Jakub Mensik, 3-6, 6-7
Wins over Ben Shelton and Taylor Fritz proved that Baez can be a threat on hard courts as well as clay.
If he can maintain that level, then perhaps he could be an ATP Finals contender later in the year…
3. Hubert Hurkacz
Hubert Hurkacz endured a torrid 2025 campaign, suffering from injuries throughout.
Returning to action at the United Cup, Hurkacz looked back to his best, if not better…

Wins over Alexander Zverev, Tallon Griekspoor, Taylor Fritz, and Stan Wawrinka helped Poland win their first-ever United Cup title.
Hurkacz last played at the ATP Finals in 2023, but if the first few weeks of 2026 are anything to go by, he could be making a return to the year-end championships this November.
4. Daniil Medvedev
Replacing Gilles Cervara with Thomas Johansson at the end of 2025, Daniil Medvedev immediately found a new lease of life, winning his first title since 2023 in Kazakhstan.
It didn’t take him long to add another trophy to his collection in 2026, as he won the Brisbane International.
Medvedev missed the ATP Finals for the first time since 2018 last time around, and doesn’t seem interested in doing that again.
5. Alexander Bublik
At the start of the 2025 season, Alexander Bublik had only won four ATP titles.
Fast forward 12 months, and Bublik has added another five trophies to his collection.
| Final | Tier | Surface | Opponent | Score |
| 2025 Halle Open | ATP 500 | Grass | Daniil Medvedev | 6-3, 7-6 |
| 2025 Swiss Open | ATP 250 | Clay | Juan Manuel Cerundolo | 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 |
| 2025 Austrian Open | ATP 250 | Clay | Arthur Cazaux | 6-4, 6-3 |
| 2025 Hangzhou Open | ATP 250 | Hard | Valentin Royer | 7-6, 7-6 |
| 2025 Hong Kong Open | ATP 250 | Hard | Lorenzo Musetti | 7-6, 6-3 |
The 28-year-old’s latest triumph in Hong Kong saw him pick up his first 250 points of the season, leaving him in a good spot with the Australian Open right around the corner.
Having served as an alternate at the 2025 ATP Finals, it looks like Bublik wants to qualify properly this time around.
6. Tomas Machac
Tomas Machac lost to his countryman Jiri Lehecka in his first match of the season at the Brisbane International, but refused to let his head drop.
The 25-year-old headed over to Adelaide and found some of his best tennis, defeating Tommy Paul and Ugo Humbert to clinch the title.

If Machac can stay fit for the entire year, then fans can expect to see him pick up a few more titles before the 2026 season draws to a close.
7. Marcos Giron
America’s Marcos Giron has already won six matches this year.
Reaching the semifinals of the Hong Kong Open and the ASB Classic, the world number 60 seems to have made some big improvements during the off-season.
Drawn against his fellow American and the number 25 seed Learner Tien, in the first round of the Australian Open, Giron looks good value to cause an upset.
8. Brandon Nakashima
The second American in the running for an ATP Finals spot is Brandon Nakashima.
A former Next Gen Finals champion, Nakashima hasn’t quite lived up to that potential yet, but has made a strong start in 2026.
Nakashima reached the final of the Brisbane International, defeating the number-two seed Alejandro Davidovich Fokina along the way.
