Six high-profile players could miss the ATP Finals and the WTA Finals Riyadh

The men’s and women’s tennis calendars rage on after the conclusion of the US Open, culminating in the ATP Finals and WTA Finals Riyadh.

The WTA Finals Riyadh is up first at the very beginning of November, quickly followed in the schedule by the ATP Finals.

Turin is once again the venue for the latter, where the top eight ATP players will fight for the season-ending trophy.

Jannik Sinner emerged victorious on home soil last time out, overcoming American Taylor Fritz in the final.

But his compatriot Coco Gauff clinched success in Saudi Arabia in 2024, defeating WTA rival Qinwen Zheng in the final.

Three high-profile players who could miss the 2025 ATP Finals

Carlos Alcaraz is the new ATP number one following his US Open success, replacing runner-up Sinner at the top.

Both players have, however, already qualified for the ATP Finals, with many stars looking to follow suit as soon as possible.

Novak Djokovic, Alexander Zverev and Ben Shelton currently sit within the top five, with Fritz, Alex de Minaur and Lorenzo Musetti in sixth, seventh and eighth respectively.

That leaves a handful of high-profile names in a worrying position as the tournament nears, although ninth-placed Jack Draper isn’t on that list after confirming he’ll miss the rest of the season with injury.

But three-time Grand Slam champion Casper Ruud is very much in danger of falling short, sitting 12th in the Race to Turin rankings.

Both Tommy Paul and Daniil Medvedev meanwhile look set to miss out, occupying the 17th and 22nd spots respectively in the rankings.

Which stars could miss the WTA Finals Riyadh in 2025?

Just like Alcaraz and Sinner on the ATP Tour, Aryna Sabalenka and Iga Swiatek have already qualified for the WTA Finals Riyadh.

But again, there are a few high-profile players who may fail to make the cut, including two-time Grand Slam champion Jasmine Paolini.

She is ninth in the Race to the WTA Finals, while Emma Navarro (13) and Naomi Osaka (14) could also miss out.

Currently making the cut alongside Sabalenka and Swiatek are four Americans; Coco Gauff, Amanda Anisimova, Madison Keys and Jessica Pegula.

And they are joined in the top eight by Mirra Andreeva and Elena Rybakina, while Ekaterina Alexandrova completes the top 10.

The potential near misses certainly don’t end there, with last year’s runner-up Zheng and British number one Emma Raducanu nowhere to be seen, along with the likes of Paula Badosa and Barbora Krejcikova.
