Venus Williams has not won a singles match at the US Open in six years after her latest defeat.
Williams recently returned to tennis at 45 years old, making history after beating Peyton Stearns at the Washington Open.
As a result of her recent return, Williams was granted a US Open wildcard as a two-time former singles champion.
Despite Williams experiencing something she never has before on a tennis court, the seven-time major singles champion suffered another first round defeat at the US Open.

Saisai Zheng: The last player to be beaten by Venus Williams at the US Open
Williams was beaten by 11th seed Karolina Muchova in the first round of the US Open this year, making it her fifth consecutive singles defeat at the New York major.
The last time that Williams won a singles match at the US Open was in 2019, when she beat Saisai Zheng in the first round.
Zheng has been ranked as high as world number 34, and won her only WTA singles title after beating Aryna Sabalenka to win the Silicon Valley Classic in 2019.
However, she is best known for her doubles achievements, where she has been ranked as high as world number 15.
The same year that Zheng lost to Williams was the year she reached her only Grand Slam final to date alongside Yingying Duan at Roland Garros.

In 2025, Zheng plays nearly exclusively doubles and is outside the top 600 in the WTA singles rankings.
Since Williams beat Zheng at the 2019 US Open, she has been unable to win another singles match at the New York major, including two defeats to the aforementioned Muchova.
Four of those five defeats have been in straight sets, but the encouraging thing for Williams could be that her most recent loss was the first of those where she forced a decider.

When did Venus Williams win her last match at any Grand Slam?
Although it has been six years since Williams last won a singles match at the US Open, she has won a match at another Grand Slam since then.
That major tournament is Wimbledon, where Williams is a five-time champion, and saw her last Grand Slam victory in 2021.
At 41 years old, Williams beat her Romanian opponent Mihaela Buzarnescu, 7-5 4-6 6-3, to get her 90th win at the Wimbledon Championships.
Williams subsequently lost her second round match to Ons Jabeur, and has been unable to win a Grand Slam match since.
The former world number one has made four Grand Slam main draw appearances since then, but she has been unable to surpass the first round at any of them.
It is unclear as to which Grand Slam tournament Williams will next be competing at, or if she will ever play another match at all at a major.
