Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer completely dominated the ATP Tour for some time during their prime.
Nadal and Federer have long retired from playing tennis, but Djokovic is remarkably still posing a threat at the age of 39.
But together, the Big Three were almost unstoppable, with their extraordinary efforts epitomized by their combined weeks as ATP number one.
Who is the greatest male tennis player of all time?
Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal & Roger Federer weeks as ATP No. 1
Truly remarkably, the Big Three have spent a combined 947 weeks sitting at the very top of the ATP rankings.
It’s a stunning feat, with each player playing a key role, although Djokovic does lead the way with 428 weeks.
But Federer and Nadal also deserve immense praise for their efforts, spending 310 and 209 weeks respectively as world number one.
It is also Djokovic who leads the way for Grand Slam titles, with his tally of 24 just ahead of Nadal’s 22 and Federer’s 20.
| Rank | Player | Weeks at No. 1 | Max consecutive weeks at No. 1 | Year-end No. 1s |
| 1 | Novak Djokovic | 428 | 122 | 8 |
| 2 | Roger Federer | 310 | 237 | 5 |
| 3 | Rafael Nadal | 209 | 56 | 5 |
Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz have perfectly replaced the Big Three
While Djokovic is not looking like slowing down any time soon, there is, of course, a new rivalry in men’s tennis.
Unfortunately Carlos Alcaraz’s injury has kept him out of action lately, but he has been the dominant ATP force in recent years alongside Jannik Sinner.
The days of the Big Three are sadly long gone, but fortunately the New Two have been able to step up in their absence.
Alexander Zverev has done well to challenge Sinner while Alcaraz has been injured, as has Djokovic, but nobody has been able to mount a serious threat to the leading pair.
| Rank | Player | Weeks at No. 1 | Max consecutive weeks at No. 1 | Year-end No. 1s |
| 1 | Jannik Sinner | 80 | 65 | 1 |
| 2 | Carlos Alcaraz | 66 | 22 | 2 |
Along with their thrilling rivalry and epic battle to be ATP number one, the duo have been the players to beat at Grand Slams.
Sinner and Alcaraz have combined to win 10 of the last 11 Grand Slam titles, with Zverev bucking the trend by winning the 2026 French Open.
