Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz will meet once again in a tour-level final when they go toe-to-toe at the Cincinnati Open.

The ‘new two’ have met in three finals already in 2025, the most recent of which came at Wimbledon earlier this summer, where Sinner defeated Alcaraz to hoist the title in SW19 for the first time.

During the clay swing, they clashed in Rome after the Italian returned from his three-month ban from tennis, and again in the final of Roland Garros, with the Spaniard emerging victorious in both.

Sinner and Alcaraz look set to dominate the ATP Tour for years to come, having won 19 titles between them in the last two years.

In fact, there has only been one player between the 2024 and 2025 seasons who has won a tournament that featured both the current world number one and two.

At the 2024 Madrid Open, Sinner and Alcaraz entered the tournament as the first and second seeds, respectively.

The home hope was looking to three-peat in Madrid after winning the Masters 1000 trophy two times in a row, while his rival was hoping to improve on a third-round finish in his last appearance in the Spanish capital.

In the quarterfinals, Sinner, scheduled to play Felix Auger-Aliassime, was forced to withdraw due to a hip injury, while Alcaraz, on the other hand, was faced with Andrey Rublev.

After going a set down against the two-time defending champion, Rublev fought back to win the match and advance to the semifinals.

It marked the Russian’s first and only victory over Alcaraz, and he went on to clinch the title, defeating Auger-Aliassime in the final.

Since then, in every tournament where the two multiple-time Grand Slam champions have made an appearance, the competition has been won by one of them.

Players who have defeated Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner in 2025

Though no player has managed to defeat both Alcaraz and Sinner this season, a few stars have earned victories over either one of them.

At the Australian Open, Novak Djokovic defeated the five-time major champion in four sets to advance to the semifinals in Melbourne.

Jack Draper and David Goffin also picked up wins against Alcaraz during the ‘Sunshine Double’, with the Briton triumphing in Indian Wells, and the Belgian coming out on top in Miami.

Jiri Lehecka beat him in Qatar, while Holger Rune overcame him in the Barcelona Open final.

The only player not named Alcaraz to defeat Sinner this season is Alexander Bublik, who was able to find a way past the ATP number one in Halle.
