Felix Auger-Aliassime is having a storming end to the 2025 season, and is therefore poised to enter 2026 full of promise.
The form he has exhibited over the last few months is the kind that many have been predicting from him for years now; however, injuries and other factors have prohibited his obvious potential from flourishing.
At last, we are now starting to see the player many hoped he could become, revealing a bright future once again.
However, some have been backing the Canadian for years now and will feel vindicated to see him find his feet around the pinnacle of the men’s game.
John McEnroe is one such example, who actually made a bold claim early in 2023, which might finally come true next year.
John McEnroe’s prediction about Felix Auger-Aliassime
Speaking in February of that year, the American insisted: “I think he’s going to win a major in the next year, 18 months at the most. I think he’s made great progress.
“I like Felix a lot, the Canadian, Auger-Aliassime.”

He then laid out his expectations for the coming years, which might finally be coming true, two years later: “He seems the sort of the guy that I think was most likely to win from a bunch of them. I think there’s going to be a handful of guys that are going to do it.
“But right now, he’s making some incredible progress and showing a lot of people that to me, he’s going to be the guy in a few years.”
Now, whilst Felix Auger-Aliassime would go on to suffer three first-round exits at majors that year, injuries were a consistent theme throughout a turbulent 2023.
At last, the 25-year-old seems fit and ready to challenge the established elite on the ATP Tour.
It’s therefore ironic that Auger-Aliassime stated how he’d like to be more like Jannik Sinner after his most recent win.
Could Felix Auger-Aliassime join Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner as a new Big Three?
The irony in that statement comes given it is Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz who the entire ATP Tour are seeking to catch up with, as the duo who have led the way for major titles over the last two years.
Their dominance has been startling, and nobody really comes close.
Fortunately, throughout 2025, we have seen signs of life from some of the younger, more promising players on tour, with Jack Draper and Ben Shelton both winning their maiden Masters 1000 titles in Indian Wells and Canada, respectively.
However, Auger-Aliassime’s progress has been steadier, ironically sparked after the event in Canada.
Is Jannik Sinner currently the best player in the world?
Reaching the quarter-finals in Cincinnati, he backed that up with a run to the semi-finals of the US Open, matching his best-ever run at a Grand Slam.
Frustratingly, on both occasions, he was felled by Sinner.
Next up came Shanghai, reaching the quarter-final, before he stormed into another final, this time in Paris.
Such a stunning run of form earned him his spot in the ATP Finals, where he still has a chance to qualify for the semi-finals.
Should he maintain this form and continue to improve, there’s no reason why Auger-Aliassime cannot join Alcaraz and Sinner at the top of the men’s game.
